The Playing Techniques series marks the culmination of legendary drummers Ralph Humphrey and Joe Porcaro's deep contribution to drum set education. Covering the study of everything pertaining to the proper technical performance of music on the drum set, the materials are presented in a systematic manner similar to a college course, which the authors refined over decades of teaching at Musicians Institute and Los Angeles College of Music. Book three covers flams applied to various stickings; poly-pulse ostinatos in 3/4 and 12/8; bass drum groove exercises; category 3, 4, & 5 sticking development and phrasing; more rudiments and rudimental etudes; intro to note groupings and changing note value rates; more diddle, double, and flam applications combined with sticking and phrasing exercises; amd 3-note groupings.
